Ford recalls 2026 Explorer models due to engine defect

Ford has issued a recall for six 2026 Ford Explorer models equipped with 2.3L EcoBoost I4 engines due to potential engine failure. The recall was prompted after quality control identified ten warranty replacements that exhibited identical issues with connecting rod bearings.

The defect stems from a narrow production window between February 10 and February 17, 2026, during which components were assembled with imprecise measurements. This can lead to excessive bearing wear, causing sudden power loss, engine seizure, or even a hole in the engine block, which poses a fire risk.

To resolve the issue, Ford will perform an invasive replacement of the entire long block for the affected vehicles.
