Ford recalls 2,275 Ranger vehicles over airbag safety concerns

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has issued a safety recall for 2,275 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles produced for the 2026–2027 model year. The recall was announced by South Africa’s National Consumer Commission (NCC) following concerns regarding the side-curtain airbags.

The defect involves a potential interaction between the side-curtain airbags and the B-pillar trim during deployment. If the airbags inflate, the trim could detach and become a projectile inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

The affected vehicles were sold through Ford franchised dealerships in South Africa between May 22 and June 23, 2026. Some of these vehicles were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.

Acting NCC Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu urged owners to contact Ford without delay, noting that the recall involves a safety-critical component. All necessary inspections and remedial repairs will be conducted by authorized Ford dealerships at no cost to the consumers.
