Ford recalls Mustangs and other models over engine defects

Ford has issued two separate recalls in the United States affecting various vehicle models due to engine-related defects.

In recall 26C40, approximately 147,977 Mustangs built between September 2022 and June 2026 are being recalled. The issue involves engine wiring harness ground eyelets that may fracture due to an interference fit caused by added heat-shrink. Depending on which ground fails, drivers could experience a loss of motive power, failure of headlights, horns, windshield washer pumps, or air conditioning.

In a separate recall (NHTSA 26V548), Ford is recalling select 2026 models, including the Bronco Sport, Bronco, Ranger, Explorer, and Mustang. These vehicles, equipped with 1.5-liter and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines, may have improperly manufactured pistons. The defect involves piston domes that may crack at the interface between the nickel-resistant insert and the aluminum material, potentially leading to engine failure. The Bronco Sport represents the largest portion of this recall.
