Ford announces Fathom electric pickup and new vehicle lineup

Ford is advancing its electric vehicle strategy with the announcement of the Fathom, an affordable midsize electric pickup. Built on the new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, the Fathom is expected to start at $28,350 in the US and CA$38,690 in Canada. The vehicle will feature bidirectional charging, BlueCruise technology, and integrated Apple Maps. Pre-orders for the Fathom are slated to begin in early 2027.

In addition to the Fathom, Ford is reportedly developing a four-door Mustang sedan, internally referred to as the Mach 4. This performance sedan, which may utilize hybrid power, is expected to launch around 2028 or 2029 with a starting price below $40,000. The company is also exploring a budget-friendly hybrid or gasoline crossover priced near $25,000, potentially arriving by 2029.

Separately, Ford has issued a recall for approximately 63,000 vehicles, including Kuga, Mustang Mach-E, and Transit models. The recall addresses a potential failure in the driving assistance management module that could cause headlights to malfunction, either reducing visibility or blinding oncoming drivers. The fix involves a software reprogramming of the front camera module.
