Ford rolls out AI assistant for vehicle troubleshooting
Ford has begun rolling out a new AI assistant designed to provide vehicle-specific information and troubleshooting for owners of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Initially available through mobile app updates, the assistant is tied directly to an individual vehicle's real-time data, allowing it to answer questions regarding fuel levels, oil life, and tire pressure.
Users can interact with the assistant by typing questions or capturing photos of dashboard warning lights and mechanical issues, such as a flat tire, to receive guidance on common fixes. One specialized feature includes the ability to photograph a load—such as firewood—to estimate volume and weight capacity based on the specific dimensions of a truck bed.
The rollout targets approximately 8 million eligible owners in the United States. While currently an app-only experience, Ford plans to integrate the AI directly into vehicle dashboards by 2027, where it will function alongside navigation and media systems.
