Ford to move Lincoln Nautilus production from China to US by 2030

Ford Motor Company has announced plans to end imports of the Lincoln Nautilus from China, shifting production to United States factories by 2030. The decision is primarily driven by a 52.5% US tariff on vehicles imported from China.

The Nautilus is currently the only Ford model imported directly from China for the US market, manufactured through a joint venture with Changan in Hangzhou. While Ford initially began importing the SUV in 2024 due to a lack of North American production capacity, the company is now moving to utilize domestic infrastructure to avoid high trade costs.

CEO Jim Farley stated that the company made the decision once the administration’s trade policy became clear. The move is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the US, though Ford has not yet specified which domestic plant will handle the production. This shift follows similar strategic moves by other automakers, such as General Motors, to relocate production to the US to mitigate tariff impacts.
