Ford unveils 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC with 795 hp
Ford Motor Company has introduced the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC, a supercharged muscle car designed to replace the traditional Shelby moniker in the brand's performance lineup. Positioned below the Mustang GTD, the vehicle is built on the seventh-generation S650 platform and features a modified 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. The car utilizes a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.1 seconds.
To refine the vehicle, Ford design chief Todd Willing applied the Japanese management philosophy of ‘Gemba’—the practice of observing real-world usage firsthand. Willing conducted a 1,500 km test drive from Michigan to California to evaluate the prototype in diverse conditions, including mountain passes and desert environments. This hands-on approach allowed the design team to identify practical issues, such as seat comfort and interior component fit, that digital simulations might overlook.
