Ford warns Chinese car makers could enter US market within a decade

Ford CEO Jim Farley told employees that Chinese automobile manufacturers are likely to reach the United States market in the next five to ten years. While the United States currently uses trade barriers to limit Chinese vehicle imports, Chinese brands are expanding rapidly in Europe, Mexico and have limited sales in Canada.

Ford is preparing a strategy to meet the competition, accelerating development of lower‑cost electric vehicles. The company is working on a new battery pickup, tentatively named Ranchero, priced around $30,000 and built on the Universal EV platform, with plans to launch additional models on the same architecture. Farley also noted his personal experience driving a Xiaomi SU7 and mentioned ongoing talks with Chinese firms, including a partnership with Geely to produce vehicles in Spain for the European market.
