Foreign couple detained for 400,000 euro spiritual fraud

A foreign couple has been detained by the Polícia Judiciária for defrauding a woman of more than 400,000 euros. The woman, who presented herself as a tarot reader on social media and through a website, exploited the victim's emotional and psychological vulnerability.

According to investigators, the suspect convinced the victim to make bank transfers and provide cash under the false pretext that the money needed to be ‘benzido’ and ‘purificado’ (blessed and purified). The detainees, who have criminal records in Brazil, were found living a luxurious lifestyle and were located with the assistance of foreign entities.
