Foreign exchange reserves fluctuate in Pakistan and India
Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves rose to approximately $26.86 billion as of October 9, 2026. This total includes $21.47 billion held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and $5.39 billion held by commercial banks. The SBP reported a weekly increase of $16 million in its holdings.
In contrast, India’s foreign exchange reserves decreased by $8.58 billion during the week ending October 9, 2026, bringing the total to approximately $726.03 billion. This follows a previous weekly decline of $12.95 billion. Since reaching a record high of $785.71 billion in early September, India’s reserves have declined by nearly $60 billion. The reduction was driven by a $7.14 billion drop in foreign currency assets and a $1.32 billion decrease in gold reserves.
