Foreign investment trends show mixed results in Turkey
Foreign investment trends in Turkey show mixed signals across different financial sectors. In Borsa İstanbul, foreign investors have continued a buying trend for two consecutive months, recording a net inflow of $356.2 million in September. This brings the total net foreign inflow for the first nine months of the year to $3.19 billion.
However, the investment fund market experienced a significant contraction. According to Central Securities Depository (MKK) data, the dollar-denominated fund portfolios held by foreign investors fell from $11.1 billion at the end of August to $5 billion by the end of September. This $6.1 billion decrease represents a roughly 55% reduction in portfolio size, though experts note this may be driven by valuation changes and exchange rate movements rather than pure capital outflows.
In terms of corporate balance sheets, 15 companies hold significant foreign currency positions totaling 296.82 billion TL. Sabancı Holding leads this group with 37.91 billion TL, followed by Enka İnşaat (35.46 billion TL), Akfen İnşaat (32.91 billion TL), and Garanti Bankası (32.01 billion TL).
