Foreign Land Ownership in Buenos Aires Province Reaches 290,000 Hectares

A recent analysis by the Observatorio de Tierras, using data from the Registro Nacional de Tierras Rurales, shows that about 289,800 hectares – 8.21% of the total agricultural area – are owned by foreign entities across 28 partidos in Argentina's Buenos Aires Province. Campana leads with half of its 23,743 hectares (11,935 ha) under foreign ownership, followed by Zárate at 25% (12,003 ha). Juárez holds the greatest absolute foreign‑owned area at 67,951 hectares.

Olavarría, with a total surface of 708,136 hectares, has 25,256 hectares in foreign hands, representing roughly 4% of the district. The map produced by the Observatorio highlights stark regional disparities, with some districts near the 15% legal limit and others around 6%.

The findings underscore growing concerns about land concentration and the impact of foreign investment on Argentina's agricultural sector.
