Forensic audit reveals vote discrepancies in Guyana 2020 election trial

During an ongoing trial regarding the 2020 elections, forensic accountant Terrence Jaskaran testified that significant discrepancies exist between certified Statements of Poll (SOPs) and the Region Four declarations made on March 5 and March 13, 2020.

Jaskaran’s analysis indicated that the March 5 and March 13 declarations effectively overturned a lead of more than 15,000 votes held by the PPP/C. Specifically, for the APNU+AFC, the certified SOPs totaled 116,215 votes, but the March 5 declaration recorded 136,458 votes—an increase of 20,243. Conversely, the PPP/C’s SOP-based total of 80,288 votes was reduced to 77,329 in the March 5 declaration and 77,231 in the March 13 declaration.

Prosecutor Latchmie Rahamat stated that the declarations changed the election results to favor the APNU+AFC. During cross-examination, defense attorney Eusi Anderson questioned Jaskaran regarding his political views expressed on social media, which Jaskaran maintained did not influence his professional findings.
