The death of gynecologist Dr. Özlem Gültekin in her Izmir clinic has triggered a complex investigation involving allegations of drug addiction and blackmail. While initial reports suggested a sudden heart attack, the discovery of prescription medications at her home and clinic led authorities to treat the case as suspicious.

Gültekin’s estranged husband, news presenter Erhan Çelik, filed a criminal complaint alleging that the doctor was addicted to anesthetic drugs and that third parties were assisting in their procurement. However, forensic reports from the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute regarding samples taken from Gültekin found no traces of narcotics or stimulants, only therapeutic substances such as citalopram and escitalopram. Consequently, the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office closed the investigation into drug use due to a lack of evidence.

Parallel to the medical investigation, a blackmail attempt was uncovered. A Turkmenistan national, Y. S., who worked as a domestic helper in Gültekin’s home, was caught by police while attempting to sell secret recordings of the doctor to Erhan Çelik for $10,000. The suspect was initially detained but later released under judicial control with a travel ban.
