Forest fire and safety risks persist in Moselle and Luxembourg

Authorities in Moselle, France, and Luxembourg are issuing warnings regarding forest safety and fire risks due to ongoing drought conditions and fragile vegetation.

In Moselle, the Prefecture has maintained a “severe” fire risk level for several sectors, including the west of the department, the Saulnois region, and Forbach. In these high-risk zones, several activities are prohibited, such as forest fires, agricultural residue burning, campfires, and festive fires. Additionally, activities using thermal motors or tools capable of producing sparks are banned daily from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM in forests and within 200 meters of forest edges. Pyrotechnic displays are also subject to specific restrictions.

In Luxembourg, the Administration de la nature et des forêts is warning the public about the physical dangers posed by weakened trees. Following successive heatwaves and periods of drought, trees remain fragile and prone to falling branches or destabilization. Officials advise hikers to stay on marked paths, avoid forest breaks near trees, and strictly respect any temporary closures or safety measures to prevent injury or accidental fires.
