Tatra National Park wildfire extinguished after 24-hour operation
Firefighters have successfully extinguished a wildfire in the High Tatra mountains within the Tatra National Park. The blaze, which broke out near Popradske pleso, affected an area of approximately 50 by 100 meters.
The firefighting operation lasted over 24 hours and involved dozens of professional and volunteer firefighters, as well as specialized ground-based forest firefighting modules. Aerial support was critical to the effort, including the deployment of a UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter which performed 21 water drops to combat the flames in the difficult, mountainous terrain.
While the fire is now under control, authorities have implemented monitoring at the site to detect any potential re-ignition. Officials have urged tourists to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow fire safety regulations during the current dry period.
