Forest fire restrictions vary in St. Gallen and Ortenaukreis

Authorities in St. Gallen, Switzerland, have lifted the forest fire ban as of midday on September 2, following recent rainfall that has reduced immediate wildfire risks. However, officials warn that drought conditions remain critical. Groundwater levels are very low, and restrictions on entering watercourses and extracting water remain in place until further notice.

In contrast, the Ortenaukreis district in Germany has extended its ban on public fire and barbecue sites in forests through September 30. Despite recent rain, officials state that soil and vegetation remain extremely dry, posing a continued high risk of forest fires. The district reminds the public that smoking in forests is prohibited and that any unauthorized fire use remains illegal.
