Forest fires contained in Colombia and extinguished by rain in Spain
In Tibasosa, Colombia, firefighters successfully contained a forest fire on Tuesday, September 9. The blaze spread rapidly through dry eucalyptus plantations and undergrowth. While no homes were damaged, heavy smoke affected nearby residents and the El Paraíso condominium. Authorities noted that while the perimeter is contained, the area remains under surveillance due to the risk of reignition from hot embers.
In Spain, heavy rainfall has completely extinguished a forest fire that originated in Pendilla de Arbas, León, on September 4. The fire had previously crossed into the municipality of Lena, Asturias, necessitating a massive response involving over 40 resources, including helicopters, water bombers, and ground crews. After being declared controlled on September 7, the recent rains finally eliminated the remaining active hotspots.
