Balıkesir forest fire contained; three suspects detained

A major forest fire in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, Turkey, has been brought under control after approximately 21 hours of intensive firefighting efforts. The blaze originated on August 19 at around 1:00 PM on the Sındırgı-Simav highway near the Düvertepe neighborhood, reportedly starting in a truck before spreading to the adjacent forest area.

Emergency response efforts involved a massive deployment of resources, including 7 aircraft, 8 helicopters, 31 water tenders, and nearly 300 personnel. Due to the fire's proximity to residential areas, authorities established security corridors and issued warnings to avoid the Sındırgı-Simav highway.

The fire was officially contained by 10:00 AM on August 20, and cooling operations are currently underway. Following investigations by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, three suspects believed to be responsible for the fire have been detained by the Public Prosecutor's Office. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are ongoing.
