Forest fires reported in Ogan Ilir and Jember
Multiple forest and land fires (karhutla) have been reported in different regions of Indonesia. In South Sumatra, intensifying fires in the Pemulutan District of Ogan Ilir Regency have threatened residential areas in Arisan Jaya and Ibul Besar 3 villages. Emergency responders have worked from day into night to prevent the flames from reaching homes, as the fires have also impacted air quality in the vicinity.
In East Java, a fire at Mount Watangan in the Wuluhan District of Jember Regency destroyed approximately 6.5 hectares of Perhutani forest land. The blaze, which began Saturday night, was fueled by dry vegetation and strong winds. Despite difficult terrain and steep cliffs, a joint team including the Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), firefighters, and local volunteers successfully extinguished the fire by early Sunday morning. No casualties were reported, and the fire was contained approximately 3 kilometers away from residential settlements.
