Forest fires reported in Peru and Spain

Forest fires have caused significant damage in different regions. In the Sitabamba district of La Libertad, Peru, a fire destroyed at least 30 hectares of crops, forests, and pastures in the Santa Cruz de Payures area. The blaze affected various agricultural products, including maize, corn, barley, and peas, as well as seven hectares of eucalyptus forest. While local residents helped contain 97% of the fire, strong winds continue to pose a risk of reactivation.

In Villalcampo, located in the Alcañices region of Zamora, Spain, a new forest fire was declared on Monday, August 24. The fire reached a Potential Gravity Index of 2 (IGR 2) shortly after it began, prompting the mobilization of 20 resources, including environmental agents and technicians. Southwest winds are complicating containment efforts. The total area affected by the fire in Spain is still being determined as crews work to perimeter the trees, scrubland, and agricultural land.
