Forest for Cornwall hits two million trees milestone

The Forest for Cornwall project has reached a milestone of planting more than two million trees. To support continued expansion, Cornwall Council has secured £8.76 million from Defra’s Trees Programme.

The funding is intended to help the project achieve its target of 8,000 hectares of new tree canopy by 2035, as outlined in the authority’s Grow Nature Action Plan. Since 2019, the initiative has transformed 2,025 hectares, which includes 825 hectares of new woodland, 167 new orchards, and 495 hectares of agroforestry across 121 farms, alongside urban tree planting and significant new hedgerow installation.

Cllr Loic Rich, Cornwall’s cabinet member for environment and climate change, stated that the funding is a
