Forest Guard uncovers over 800 illegally felled trees in Romania

Romanian Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Diana Buzoianu, announced that Forest Guard inspections have uncovered large-scale illegal logging within the Pădurea Bogății private forestry district. Investigators initially identified nearly 400 illegally felled trees in a single canton, and subsequent checks in four additional cantons revealed approximately 400 more, bringing the current total to over 800 trees.

Buzoianu criticized the administrators of the forestry district for attempting to minimize the severity of the findings. She stated that the Forest Guard will continue and expand its inspections to the remaining cantons of the district.

Legal action is forthcoming, including a criminal complaint. The minister noted that the financial damages will be imputed to the foresters responsible for the area who failed to identify the illegal activities.
