Forest Hills residents protest unused Citi Bike stations
A recent expansion of the Citi Bike network in Queens has drawn criticism from Forest Hills residents. Following an announcement by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the network grew by 11%, adding 234 stations across Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.
Locals in Forest Hills report that new docking stations are frequently full but underutilized, occupying sidewalk space and limited parking. Residents have expressed frustration that the stations obstruct pedestrians, including those using wheelchairs or strollers, and in some cases, have been placed directly in front of private residences.
Lyft, which operates the service, plans to install hundreds of additional docks across existing service areas this fall, including Midtown, Chelsea, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Gowanus. Meanwhile, some riders have raised concerns regarding the increasing cost of using the silver electric bicycles.
