Forest industry in Northeast Argentina faces logistical hurdles
The forest industry in Northeast Argentina (NEA) and the Litoral region is positioning itself as a significant regional economic driver. During a seminar in Posadas, Misiones, industry experts and officials discussed the sector's potential and the structural challenges it faces.
Key data indicates that the sector manages approximately 1.3 million hectares of plantations and over 53 million hectares of native forests. The industry employs nearly 100,000 people and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in exports. Despite this potential, stakeholders highlighted critical bottlenecks, including falling demand and logistical hurdles such as the need for improved railway and waterway infrastructure to reduce costs.
