Forest Service pavilion inaugurated at 90th Thessaloniki International Fair
Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou, alongside Seichiro Takaguchi of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the Forest Service pavilion at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair.
Minister Papastavrou emphasized the critical role of the Forest Service in protecting the nation's natural resources, noting that for the first time in 22 years, over 440 new hires have been made, though he stated more are needed. He highlighted recent fire prevention efforts, including the installation of over 350 barriers across 175 locations to protect settlements such as Alexandroupoli and Soufli.
General Secretary of Forests Stathis Stathopoulos described the ‘Antinero’ project as the most significant prevention work in Greece in three decades. He noted improvements in Thessaloniki, including new fire prevention zones, forest roads, and reforestation projects in the Pavlou Mela and Thermi municipalities. Stathopoulos also mentioned that the Green Fund will lead upcoming mountain hydrometric projects across Thessaly, Macedonia, Attica, and the Peloponnese.
