Forestry and conservation efforts continue in the Netherlands

Forestry and conservation efforts are progressing in the Netherlands. In the Sterrebos, the bird breeding season has concluded, allowing timber harvesting to resume. Foresters have begun felling and sorting large, straight trunks that were previously marked for removal but held in reserve to avoid disturbing nesting birds.

Meanwhile, Staatsbosbeheer is working toward the National Forest Strategy goal of creating 37,000 hectares of new forest by 2030. In the floodplains of the Waal river, an initiative is underway to allow 200 hectares of riparian forest to develop naturally. While the goal is to reach approximately 130 hectares of new forest, the process is influenced by river dynamics, sediment deposition, and fluctuating water levels that can range between 6 and 7 meters.
