Forlì Airport aircraft overturned by powerful Italian storm

A powerful storm with wind gusts reaching approximately 120 km/h struck northern Italy, causing significant disruption at the Luigi Ridolfi Airport in Forlì, Emilia-Romagna. The extreme weather resulted in four light aircraft being affected; one aircraft was blown off course during landing, while three others were tossed or overturned on the tarmac.

The storm caused structural damage to the airport, including damage to the arrival terminal roof and parts of a hangar operated by AlbaTechnics. Authorities temporarily closed the airport for about an hour to conduct safety inspections and check for hazards such as fuel leaks.

The cyclone impacted several other northern Italian regions, including Liguria, Lombardy, Tuscany, and the Alps. In Liguria, a red weather alert was issued as heavy rainfall caused flash flooding and streets to turn into rivers. In Bergamo, approximately 250 people were evacuated from a local camp due to landslides and mudslides. Emergency services reported over 150 interventions across the region to manage fallen trees, power outages, and flooding.
