Northern Italian regions form unified manufacturing district

Five northern Italian regions—Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Lombardia, Piemonte, and Veneto—have established a joint steering committee to create a unified Northern Manufacturing District. This strategic alliance aims to coordinate industrial and economic policies to strengthen the region's competitiveness on a European scale.

The coalition seeks to present a single, unified voice to the Italian government and the European Commission. By acting as a collective, the regions intend to influence decisions regarding industrial aid, energy transition, digital innovation, and infrastructure. The participating regions collectively generate more than half of Italy's national GDP.

The shared agenda focuses on several key pillars, including the development of Industrial Innovation and Development Zones (ZIS), Simplified Logistics Zones (ZLS), and regional innovation networks. The initiative also prioritizes improving access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and accelerating technological transfers to modernize manufacturing processes.
