Forlì prosecutors seek to dismiss investigation into 2023 flood deaths
The Forlì Prosecutor's Office has requested the dismissal of investigations into manslaughter and negligent disaster regarding the May 2023 floods in the Romagna region. The probe sought to determine if public entities or individuals failed to implement necessary safety measures to prevent or mitigate the catastrophic damage.
The request has drawn sharp criticism from the Comitato Vittime del Fango and the families of the six victims who drowned in the Forlì-Cesena province. Notably, the Prosecutor's Office in Ravenna has requested that 14 people be sent to trial for the same disaster, creating a point of contention for those seeking accountability in Forlì.
Lucia Manuzzi, whose parents Sauro Manuzzi and Palma Maraldi were killed by the Savio River, has announced her intention to oppose the dismissal through her lawyer. The Comitato Vittime del Fango also plans to oppose the closure. A judge for preliminary investigations will review the request in September to decide whether to confirm the dismissal or proceed with the case.
