Formentera forest fires spark arson investigation

Two simultaneous forest fires broke out in Formentera late Tuesday night, prompting the mobilization of local extinction services. The first fire occurred in a forested area near Camí Vell de la Molay, specifically between Sant Francesc and Sant Ferran near a football field. This fire was small in scale and was quickly extinguished without posing a threat to nearby residents.

The second fire, located in the Camí de ses Vinyes area, was more significant and required approximately six hours of work to extinguish. Because there were houses close to this site, firefighting efforts were more complex.

Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that both fires were intentionally set. The suspicion of arson is driven by the fact that both fires started within a very short timeframe and at different locations, though no definitive conclusions regarding the origin of the flames have been reached.
