Former addicts in Konya become addiction counselors

Oğuz and Neslihan Şahin, a couple from Konya, Turkey, have transitioned from recovering drug and medication addicts to professional addiction counselors. The pair met while undergoing rehabilitation at the Liman Ayık Yaşam Association.

Oğuz Şahin, 36, struggled with addiction for approximately 16 years, which interrupted his university studies and his career as a competitive table tennis player. After unsuccessful attempts at various hospitals and clinics, he found success through a three-month rehabilitation process at the association in 2021.

Neslihan Şahin, 27, developed an addiction following the death of her father. After five years of unsuccessful attempts to recover through medical institutions, she completed her rehabilitation at the same association in 2023. Now married and raising a 10-month-old child, the couple works as counselors at different branches of the association to help others overcome addiction.
