Former Argentine footballer’s mother found dead in Quequén, son arrested

Delia Mercedes Romero, an 86‑year‑old woman, was discovered deceased inside her home in Quequén, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Police and forensic investigators found multiple injuries, including head wounds, and placed the residence under guard while collecting evidence.

Jorge Daniel "Garda" Sánchez, 56, the victim’s son and brother of former footballer Luis Eduardo "Paco" Sánchez, was detained at the scene. He is being investigated for aggravated homicide and has been placed at the disposal of authorities. The case is being handled by Fiscalía Nº 10, which specializes in gender‑based and intrafamily violence, under fiscal Walter Pierrestegui.

Eduardo "Paquillo" Sánchez, another son and former footballer, posted a grieving message on social media a week after the homicide, thanking supporters and calling for justice, saying, “Descansá, te amaré siempre.” The investigation continues with testimonies, pericial reports and further judicial proceedings.
