Former Belgrade police chief Veselin Milić arrested over Senjak restaurant murder

A 52‑year‑old man disappeared after a shooting at Restaurant 27 in the Senjak district of Belgrade on 12 May. Prosecutors say he was shot by one of the men at the table and his body has not yet been recovered. The investigation led to the arrest of ten people, including former Belgrade police chief Veselin Milić, who was removed from his post and placed in pre‑trial detention.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Milić had invited the victim to the restaurant to discuss a dispute and suggested he come without security. After the meeting, a firearm was used and the victim was shot. Additional suspects allegedly helped the gunmen flee, transporting the body towards Šabac, Dobrodol lake and Stara Pazova. Police and army units later seized a vehicle suspected of carrying the body, along with bottles of acid, blood traces and surgical gloves. Several police officers and the restaurant’s owner and waiter were also detained for alleged involvement or failure to report the disappearance. The case has spurred criticism of police and prosecutorial response, with officials denying delayed action.
