Former Bihar Minister Manju Verma Sentenced to 7 Years in Arms Act Case
A special MP‑MLA court in Begusarai, Bihar, sentenced former Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma and her husband Chandrashekhar Verma to seven years of rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act. The judgment, delivered by Judge Brajesh Kumar Singh, also imposed fines of Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 for violations of Sections 25(1‑A) and 26, with the sentences running concurrently.
The case stems from a 2018 CBI raid on the couple’s residence that uncovered 50 live cartridges, leading to an Arms Act charge linked to the broader Muzaffarpur shelter‑home scandal. Their son, Abhishek Anand, currently serves as the JD(U) MLA from Cheria Bariarpur, a seat previously held by his mother. The sentencing follows Manju Verma’s resignation after allegations of her husband’s association with prime accused Brajesh Thakur in the shelter‑home case.
