Former Binh Thuan Education Director Sentenced to 15 Years for Procurement Bribery
A court in Lam Dong Province sentenced former Binh Thuan Education Department director Phan Đoàn Thái to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes linked to the procurement of smart classroom equipment. The trial also convicted senior executives of the contractor AIC, with sentences ranging from 11 to 22 years and a total financial loss estimated at more than 12.9 billion VND.
The investigation revealed that AIC secured three tender packages worth over 27.2 billion VND by bribing officials, inflating contract prices and delivering equipment valued far below the paid amounts. The court ordered the restitution of the illegal proceeds and imposed additional penalties on accomplices involved in the scheme.
