Former Boca and Lanús striker Juan Carlos Nani dies at 75

Juan Carlos Nani, a former Argentine forward who played for Boca Juniors, Lanús and several other clubs, died on Saturday at the age of 75. He began his career at Comercial in Bahía Blanca, spent the first half of 1975 with Boca Juniors, and later featured for Argentinos Juniors, Lanús (1976‑77 and 1981), Celta de Vigo, Banfield, Chacarita Juniors, Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Defensores Unidos, and finished his playing days with Huracán de Ingeniero White in 1989.

After retiring, Nani remained linked to Huracán as a coach, director and member of its current board. The club issued a statement expressing deep sorrow, calling him a “person who left an indelible mark on the history and daily life of our institution.” Lanús also released condolences, noting his role in the team’s historic promotions in 1976 and 1981. His body will lie in state at Casa Bonacorsi from Friday night until Saturday morning.
