Former Bulgarian labor minister Kristina Kristova supports new hourly‑based work‑tenure rule

Former labor and social policy minister Kristina Kristova said the government plans to change how work tenure is calculated, moving from calendar days to the actual number of hours worked. Under the current Labour Code, any day with at least four hours counts as a full working day, affecting pension entitlement, seniority bonuses and severance pay.

Kristova explained that the proposed shift would ensure that a half‑day work schedule is recognised as such, altering the accrual of paid annual leave, seniority percentages and severance calculations. She stressed that the reform would not affect social‑security contributions or pension amounts, but aims to create greater fairness among employees.
