Former care home manager sentenced for stealing £22,500 from dementia resident
Ann Comer, 58, a former manager of Springfield House care home in Malvern, Worcestershire, was convicted at Worcester Crown Court of six counts of fraud by abuse of position after stealing £22,500 from a vulnerable resident with dementia. The stolen cash was used to fund personal expenses, including a holiday to Dubai. Comer received a twelve‑month suspended prison sentence and will face a future Proceeds of Crime Act hearing. West Mercia Police’s Economic Crime Unit uncovered the scheme, noting withdrawals of about £1,400 a month from the victim’s bank card. The case highlights concerns over safeguarding vulnerable adults in care settings and has prompted calls for stricter oversight.
