Former Carp pitcher Ryuya Toda begins lemon cultivation

Former Hiroshima Carp pitcher Ryuya Toda has completed his first lemon harvest in Aki Tsu, Higashihiroshima City. Having begun cultivation in 2022 following his retirement from professional baseball, Toda named the produce ‘Totti Lemon’ after his nickname.

Local supermarket chain Fresta recently visited the farm to inspect the quality of the crop. Approximately 180 kilograms of the lemons are scheduled to go on sale at the Fresta Alpark store on November 3. Toda is expected to appear at the storefront to discuss his cultivation methods and commitment to the project.

Toda noted that the partnership with the supermarket helps address common agricultural challenges, such as an aging farming population and limited distribution channels.
