Former Central Military Hospital deputy faces trial for forgery

The District Prosecutor's Office for Prague 6 has filed an indictment against Zdeněk Brabec, the former deputy director for personnel at the Central Military Hospital (ÚVN). Brabec, a former member of the communist-era State Security (StB), is accused of fraud, forgery and alteration of a public document, and attempted fraud.

Investigators allege that Brabec forged a lustration certificate to bypass a negative background check. This certificate was a mandatory requirement for maintaining his rank and securing promotions within the hospital, which serves high-ranking constitutional officials and war veterans. By using the forged document, he was able to achieve the rank of colonel and hold his deputy position for ten years.

Brabec denies the charges, claiming the prosecution is an attempt by the hospital's new management to obstruct him. If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison. The trial is scheduled to begin on October 29 at the District Court for Prague 6.
