Nelson Tapia involved in serious traffic accident in Chile

Nelson Tapia, former Chilean national team goalkeeper and current coach of Imperial Unido, was involved in a serious traffic accident in the Maule Region. During the early hours of Friday, August 7, Tapia lost control of his vehicle on Route 5 South near kilometer 332, causing the car to hit protection barriers and overturn approximately 50 meters from the road.

Authorities from Carabineros reported that a breathalyzer test conducted at the scene showed Tapia had 1.04 grams of alcohol per liter of blood. While the accident resulted in serious injuries, medical reports from the Linares Hospital indicated he was stable and out of vital danger. Following medical evaluation, Tapia requested a voluntary discharge to continue recovery privately.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the case. Tapia remains under investigation and has been notified to remain available to judicial authorities. His current club, Imperial Unido, expressed support for his health and confirmed he will remain in his position as technical director.
