Former China Defense Tech Deputy Zhang Jianhua Sentenced to 10 Years for Bribery
Former deputy director of China’s National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau, Zhang Jianhua, was sentenced by the Dazhou Intermediate People’s Court in Sichuan to ten years in prison for bribery and abuse of influence. The court imposed a fine of 3.8 million yuan and ordered the confiscation of all illicit proceeds.
Investigators found that between 2008 and 2025 Zhang accepted bribes totaling more than 43.38 million yuan by leveraging his positions in the defense agency, and after his 2021 retirement he received an additional 11.7 million yuan through contacts with other officials. He voluntarily surrendered, confessed and returned the money, which was handed over to the state treasury, factors that contributed to a reduced sentence.
