Former Cotton Corporation officer sentenced to five years in jail

A CBI court in Hyderabad has sentenced Majeti Venkata Bhavani Prasad, a former Cotton Purchase Officer for the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in Warangal, to five years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a ₹1 lakh fine on Prasad.

Prasad was convicted for possessing disproportionate assets totaling ₹94,17,371 between January 2010 and February 2015, an amount the CBI stated was 291.73% above his known sources of income. His wife, Majeti Priyanka, was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000 for her role in abetting the accumulation of these assets.
