Former Czech MP Petr Wolf Charged Again After Extradition from Paraguay

Former Czech parliamentarian Petr Wolf, who was sentenced in 2012 to six years in prison for a grant‑fraud scheme that siphoned 11 million crowns from the Ministry of the Environment, fled the country and spent several years in Paraguay. He was arrested there in September 2022 following international police cooperation and was extradited to the Czech Republic in October 2023.

The state prosecutor has now filed a new indictment accusing Wolf of evading his prison term. If convicted, he faces an additional two‑year custodial sentence and a fine. The Olomouc High Court previously upheld a six‑year sentence and a five‑million‑crown penalty, while his wife received a suspended three‑year term and a fine. Wolf maintains that the proceedings are politically motivated, having previously sought refugee status in Paraguay before withdrawing the application.
