Former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo opposes abolition of prosecutors' supplementary investigation authority

Former Daegu mayor Hong Jun-pyo warned that former President Yoon Suk‑yeol and independent lawmaker Han Dong‑hoon are to blame for the current crisis over the possible abolition of the prosecutors' supplementary investigation power. He argued that while some political prosecutors exist, they represent less than 1 % of all prosecutors and that “the majority of prosecutors focus on crime investigations, and eliminating the investigative authority would turn the country into a haven for criminals.”

Hong also condemned recent “flower‑show” tactics and alleged online manipulation targeting Han and his spouse, saying the actions resembled the behavior of “a second Kim Keon‑hee” and warned that such partisan intimidation should not be allowed to destabilise the nation.
