Former Drammen Mayor Turid Wickstrand Iversen Passes Away at 91
Turid Wickstrand Iversen, the first female mayor of Drammen and a long‑time Conservative Party leader, died at the age of 91. She served as mayor from 1987 to 1995, held senior roles in the municipal council, Buskerud county council, and national party structures, and remained active in senior politics and social causes until her retirement.
Synnøve Bredal Bjelland, a prominent local activist in Tysvær and longtime secretary of the environmental group Motvind Tysvær, also passed away. She was known for her outspoken defense of nature, her organizational work on community meetings and protests, and her dedication to dialogue with political leaders.
Both women were remembered for their commitment to public service, community involvement, and advocacy for vulnerable groups in Norway.
