Former DRC Justice Minister Constant Mutamba Seeks Live Broadcast of His Court of Cassation Trial

Former Democratic Republic of Congo justice minister Constant Mutamba, detained pending trial for alleged misappropriation of funds linked to the FRIVAO reparations scheme, wrote a four‑page handwritten letter from his cell on 23 July 2026. In the letter he accuses Congolese political‑judicial authorities of “politico‑judicial harassment” and demands that the national broadcaster RTNC and other media transmit his hearing before the Court of Cassation live, invoking constitutional rules on public access to court proceedings. Mutamba also alleges procedural irregularities, claiming a clerk at the Gombe High Court refused to record a citation he wished to file against a court registrar for alleged forgery, which he says undermines his right to a fair defence. He rejects the corruption charges and urges the prosecutor to present concrete evidence.
