Former El Paso firefighter charged with child sexual assault

Andrew Michael Martinez Jr., a 23-year-old former firefighter for El Paso County Emergency Services District No. 2, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child sexual assault and indecency with a child.

According to investigators in Horizon City, Texas, the suspect allegedly met the victim, a 15-year-old girl, on Instagram when she was 14 years old. Authorities state that Martinez misrepresented his age during their online communications, claiming to be 19 at the time.

The investigation follows reports from the victim's brother, which led to allegations of multiple sexual encounters. Court documents indicate that the victim reported feeling uncomfortable during interactions and alleged that Martinez engaged in sexual activity with her following a date in June. Martinez has denied engaging in sexual activity with the victim and denied knowing she was under the age of 18 during their interactions.
