Former Federal High Court Justice Baba Gana Ashigar Dies in Maiduguri

Justice Baba Gana Ashigar, a retired judge of Nigeria's Federal High Court, died after a brief illness on 25 July 2026 in Maiduguri, Borno State. The court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, confirmed his death and noted that he was buried the following day, 26 July, according to Islamic rites.

The court issued a statement praising Ashigar’s diligence, dedication, and integrity, describing him as a distinguished jurist who made significant contributions to the bench and the legal profession. Chief Judge John Tsoho and other court officials expressed heartfelt condolences to his family and prayed for his soul’s repose.
